Primate incorporated as a village on April 5, 1922, giving the community its formal footing as a municipality of its own on the Saskatchewan prairie.
It held village status for almost a century. On December 31, 2015, Primate restructured, giving up that status to become a special service area under the Rural Municipality of Eye Hill No. 382, which is where it sits today.
